022: coming in clutch
my top takes from paris fashion week + what i’ve been wearing, watching and eating
Last week, I took my friend Kate out to the Wolfgang Tillmans: Fold Me exhibition at the David Zwirner gallery. The exhibition featured shots of still green bananas and ripening mangos scattered across a bed, barbwire fences overlooking a city, crumpled clothes strew across a floor. I stood for a moment in front of one image in particular, ‘Office Paper For Food Wrapping Recycling’. Stacks of crumpled papers and pastel colored garbage bags, bound together by twine, waiting for disposal. Although the shot itself was relatively mundane, the sheer size and vividness of the photo made the image appear almost hyperrealistic. The beauty/mess of everyday living. I smiled as I found myself thinking how much it made me want to write a list…
Recently, I’ve been mulling expanding The Listé into more of a long form format. As much as I love talking about my shopping lists — trust, there will always be shopping lists — I have a plethora of other artistic interests that I’d love to share. Lifestyle, food, clothes, art, books, movies, etc. I’ve been absorbing and accumulating so many beautiful things lately, so this week we’re testing out a new format. A listicle mood board of sorts filled with all of the things I’ve been watching, eating, wearing and loving recently. I’ve been spending a copious amount of time watching fashion week reruns so this week starts with my top picks from Paris Fashion week:
What I’ve been eyeing…
Suede taking over the runways! Starting with this opening maxi skirt and cropped, sleeveless turtleneck combo from Marni. Every single detail is perfection. The pewter blue top, the soft pink pointed shoes, the lack of distracting accessories. As a style minimalist, this look sent me to heaven.
Also, every suede, monochrome look from Loewe. The simple, loose tailoring at Fendi. Victoria Beckham’s posh countryside inspired jersey dresses, knee high fine knit socks and pale workman’s suits. The petal pink, suede tube dress and A-line trench with contrasting clutch combo, again from Marni. (Actually, every single brown, blue and white colored fit from Marni.) The beautifully paired pop’s of maraschino red and cobalt blue at The Row. And every single clutch bag scattered across the New York shows to PFW.
What I’m Buying…
I started collecting my pop’s of soft blue when I preordered the Merit x Proenza Schouler makeup bag collab. Inside you’ll find one of my favorite products, Merit’s Great Skin Serum along with their best-selling foundation brush, mascara, lip oil and flush balm packaged in a limited edition collectible, reversible, black and powder blue Proenza Schouler leather makeup bag.
As well, in my perpetual online shopping cart — see, I told you the shopping lists would never be gone — I have an easily layerable cashmere sweater from Guest in Residence, this pleated corduroy suit from Aritzia, a pink silky cowl-neck halter top from Reformation, my favorite high waisted panties from CUUP, now in mesh and these low profile, kahki Zara t-strap heels.
I also finally purchased a longtime saved item, the Esmé tank from Flore Flore. As a self proclaimed, basics connoisseur, I can happily say my months of waiting and obsessing over which pieces to start with from Flore Flore was worth it... The moment I put this top on I knew this would be my go to basics brand from now on. The quality and the contruction of this top is unparalleled. I know I’m waxing on heavily for a $92 tank top, but trust me. If you’re looking for a piece that is universally flattering and will last a long time, this is the one. Next I’m looking at grabbing one of their long sleeve Max tee’s for winter, a simple Car tee for everyday wear and maybe one of the boat neck Steffi tee’s for fun!
Eating…
The Prosciutto Special from Milano Market. Colloquially (aka on Tiktok) known as the E10, my friend Krista introduced me to the prosciutto, burrata, fig jam, and basil sandwich on my latest trek to the Upper East Side and I have been dreaming about it since…
Watching…
Reminiscent of the beloved CW shows of my youth. This modern adaption of Anne Rice’s gothic classic is gay (obviously), with racially diverse brooding vampires and a heady mix of soft-gore. A perfect fall binge.
Pinning…
I’ve been going through a pink phase recently. My interior decoration board has begun to become saturated with muted pink walls amongst the chrome accented furniture, and black and white bookshelves. I’m also loving these black wooden pillar candle holders from Diptyque, Kinto’s porcelain coffee cups, these mauve cotton chiffon towels from Zara home and this set of dusty pink pasta bowls from Costa Nova.
And…
Because this photo of Em Rata in red outside Loewe has been living rent free in my head, I shall share her unearthly beauty with you as well.
For those that enjoy listening to podcasts, I recently listened to this interview with Marina Abramović, one of my favorite performance artists, on her latest exhibition at The Royal Academy of Arts in London.
What do you think of the new format? To many words? More pictures? Do let me know, and as always, feel free to share anything you’ve been eyeing by leaving a comment!
xx
